   Travelling along Castle Road

By car or motorbike

The Castle Road winds along federal and country roads. The focus is not on the fastest connection between the individual destinations but on an attractive route that takes tourists from castle to castle and from palace to palace. Throughout the German part of the Castle Road, the traveller is guided from one location to another by brown information signs with white lettering. A detailed overview of the entire route is given in the Castle Road Route Planner.

The Castle Road can be reached via the Autobahn as follows:

> Mannheim to Nuremberg: A 6 runs
almost parallel to the Castle Road
> Heidelberg: A 5
> Rothenburg ob der Tauber: A 7
> Nuremberg: A 3, A 6, A 73 and
   A 9 (Autobahnkreuz) (junction)
> Franconian Switzerland: A 73 or A 9
> Bamberg: A 70 and A 73
> Coburg und Haßberge: A 73
> Kulmbach: A 70 and A 9
> Bayreuth: A 9

The Castle Road offers cyclists a bike route from Mannheim to Prague, which is signposted throughout Germany. Most of the bike routes are well-developed cycle paths and paved agricultural roads. Only short stretches follow busy roads.
